The Phantom of the Opera (dir. Joel Schumacher, 2004)
that post was right i wouldn’t have a sense of humor without spongebob. its still some of the goddamn funniest shit i’ve ever seen. spongebob almost dying because he’s too polite to ask for a glass of water at sandy’s house. mr. krabs and spongebob killing the health inspector. smittywerbenjagermenjensen. “I was born with glass bones and paper skin. every morning I break my legs. and every afternoon I break my arms.” the perfume department on the flying dutchman’s boat. that time spongebob cleared his mind to be a fine dining waiter and forgot his own name because that’s how customer service just BE. the ugly barnacle that was so ugly everyone DIED. the END. the one where squidward buys a pie but it’s actually a bomb. and the MUSICAL numbers like??? the fun song. the christmas song. tony award winning song “this grill is not a grill”. the entire band geeks episode like…this is all from the top of my head!!!!! just from the top of my head!!! there’s so much more!!! thank god for stephen and all the laughs i’ve had because of him.
I failed you, Ben. I’m sorry.
People better equipped than I on the subject have pointed out how Ben’s is a defensive stance here, though he"s the one doing the attack eventually. I would like to point out two things: 1) this is not the confident swagger of his fight with Finn, he may wish he felt superior, but clearly doesn’t; 2) his is a closed off and ‘arm’s length’ posture visually – as if he’d like to ward off a demon, keep Luke as far away as possible (we saw it with THREE Red Guards before – to keep them away from overwhepming him).
Great points. He was soooo scared at first. You can tell. It honestly felt like a child entering adolescence and finally dredging up the courage to face the “boogeyman” that has been haunting them for years. Part of them logically knows they don’t have to be afraid, yet a part of them still is. So they face the monster down and insist “I’m not afraid of you!” Yet all the while they’re still trembling and have to rely on rage for the strength to lash out and finally dispel this power hanging over them. It’s really heartbreaking. Every time I watch it.
